What's the coolest thing about EPOXI?
I love that EPOXI is repurposing/recycling the Deep Impact spacecraft!
Why do you like working at McREL?
As of April, 2010 I have been at Mid-continent Research for Education & Learning (McREL) for 18 years! At McREL, there is not only a climate that fosters growth, but I have the fortunate pleasure to be creative every single day as well as work/engage with scientists/engineers on the various NASA missions!
What is your job on the EPOXI mission?
I contribute through assisting with graphics/web support.
How did you end up in Space Science?
12 years ago, McREL contracted to provide the Education and Public Outreach for the Genesis mission. In 2000, I went back to college to get my BFA in multimedia so that I could better support E/PO through web, video, and graphic support.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love to travel and do anything outdoors. I'm a big fan of independent movies, especially documentaries.
Who in your life inspired you?
I have always been inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt -- amazing woman!
What is one yet-to-be achieved life goal?
To travel the Machu Picchu trail in Peru.
Were you science-oriented as a young person?
No, I was more interested in the arts.
What was your favorite book as a young person?
I loved Great Expectations!
What did you want to become when you were young?
I actually had visions of becoming a fireman/woman -- I thought it would be so great to help people. Later, it changed to being a midwife.
If you weren't working in space exploration now, what might you be doing?
I would probably be involved with some sort of overseas organization helping communities rebuild -- something like Habitat for Humanity International.
